AB InBev India Reinforces Its Commitment to Renewable Electricity

~ Replaces its electricity consumption at PALS brewery in Aurangabad with solar power ~

Release date: Dec. 19, 2019

Aurangabad, December 19, 2019 – In line with its efforts to build a sustainable future, AB InBev India’s brewery PALS in Aurangabad has made a shift to solar power, allowing for the generation of greener electricity in all brewing operations. PALS is AB InBev India’s second facility in India to be powered through renewable sources after SPR brewery in Mysore. This agreement is yet another step towards AB InBev’s global commitment to secure 100% of the company’s purchased electricity from renewable sources by 2025.

The project capacity for the solar panel installation at PALS is 526 KWp, which will help in generating an average of 2000 Units per day. This implementation is equivalent to planting 27,000 mature trees that have the potential to absorb above the CO2 quantum* or to driving passenger vehicles for 49 lakh km each year without any CO2 reduction^. With this initiative, the brewery’s existing electricity purchase cost is brought down by Rs. 2.8 per unit, resulting in cost savings.

“Climate change is one of the most pressing issues our world faces today. As a leading global brewer that is committed to building a cleaner and brighter future, we are proud to adopt greener alternatives. We are thoroughly pleased with the recent initiative at our brewery in Aurangabad. SPR brewery, our state-of-the-art facility in Mysore, was the first to be powered through renewable electricity and has been successful in driving this sustainable initiative. We are delighted to extend this initiative across the country and contribute to the country’s vision in leading the renewable revolution”, said Ben Verhaert, President – South Asia, AB InBev.

AB InBev India is part of RE- 100, a collaborative, global initiative uniting more than 100 influential businesses committed to the use of renewable electricity in their operations. The company plans to enter into similar agreements in the near future and hopes to demonstrate that by switching to renewable electricity, businesses can contribute to a 100% renewable electricity future.
